Louisville Soaring Club
Overview
The Louisville Soaring Club is a non-profit organization promoting soaring flight.  Functioning as a club instead of a commercial operation, the LSC is able to keep expenses to a minimum and offer economical soaring flight.

Operations are relaxed and informal with an emphasis on fun, safe flying.  Engineless soaring flight offers a type of flying that significantly differs from other types of flight typically experienced.

Visitors are welcome.

When Days of Operation - The LSC operates weekends and holidays from approximately April through mid November on good weather days.

Hours of operation - Noon - Sunset

Solar powered flight - Sailplanes depend upon rising air currents to remain aloft.  Known as lift, these rising currents are produced by uneven heating of the ground by the sun.  Consequently, flying does not occur on days with rain, low cloud overcast, or winds exceeding 15 mph.

How Aero Tow
The LSC uses the aero-tow method of sailplane launch where the sailplane is connected to a towplane by a 200 foot long line, and is towed aloft.  When the sailplane has climbed to the desired altitude, the sailplane pilot pulls a release, letting go of the tow line.

While the sailplane flies in search of rising air currents (lift), the towplane returns to the airport to pull the next sailplane waiting to fly.
